About Us

Equipping Africans to share the Gospel with Africa's unreached.

Our Founders

ARA was founded by Billy and Jen Nelson who are American missionaries to Liberia. In 2017, a few months after moving to Liberia, God provided a vision of African believers being mobilized to spread the Gospel to unreached and unengaged people groups within Africa. Over the next several months, the Nelsons met many Liberians with hearts for the Lord, gifts for evangelism, a desire for sharing the Gospel, an ear for languages, and a passion for service. Through those relationships and much prayer, they felt God leading them to start a mission organization that focused on mobilizing, equipping, and supporting African believers.

Why we do what we do:

North Africa and parts of western Africa are some of the last countries and people groups in the world to be evangelized. This is because these places are difficult to get to, difficult to live in, and have increased rates of persecution. Traditionally, missionaries have always been sent from the West to Africa. Now the African church has millions of believers who have been discipled and are more than capable of preaching the Gospel to their African brothers and sisters.

However, the African church still needs assistance with mobilization, administration, communication, training, and fundraising. With assistance from believers around the world, the African church can effectively send out missionaries to unreached people groups in Northern and Western Africa.

An African missionary can easily blend into environments due to the color of their skin and the way they dress, can acclimate easier to hot climates because they are used to heat, can pick up on local dialects, can adapt quickly to other African foods and traditions, can navigate well to transport themselves to neighboring African countries and villages, are used to drawing water from a well and living without Western comforts.

Missions is the responsibility of all believers regardless of where you live. Every church regardless of its location is called to send and support missionaries. It is time to encourage, motivate, equip, and support our fellow believers in Africa so that they too can join in the harvest and obey the command of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to “Go into all the world, and preach the Gospel.” Will you join us in helping Africans reach Africa?
